Good intentions doesn't make a farm successful.
There is an abundance of agricultural advice, but not many teach the principles of character and context that is required.
One can have the purest of intentions when starting a chemical-free, regenerative livestock operation and still neglect the animals and the land.
One can be present with their flock or herd every day, moving paddock to paddock, and still neglect them.
You see, it is not the intention of the farmer that makes him successful. It is his principled decision-making with careful observation, deeply understanding the divine duty of stewardship.

Stewardship is not loyal to an ideology, rather, it rewards those who observe the land and animals.
But what is stewardship? It is common and trendy to claim being a steward.
Stewardship is not just taking care of what you own. It is realizing that nothing you own is yours, but something that has been entrusted—and it is your responsibility to multiply and increase it.

The problem with
regenerative agriculture.
Practices out of context.
The problem is not a lack of information of good soil health practices, it is a lack of the understanding that makes those practices work.
Rather than fostering this understanding, social media influencers often stand on dogmatic platitudes that ultimately cause more harm than good.
These broad, usually inflammatory statements are used to break through the noise to grab attention and win those on the fence.
Such statements include:
“Animals don't need to be dewormed.”
“Move your animals every day and you don’t need to deworm.”
And even when it may not necessarily be false, it is dangerous to make such sweeping statements. A beginner homesteader takes what they heard with such confidence and—without comprehensive study—begins applying that knowledge without the wisdom and understanding to properly apply it to their context.

Knowledge becomes valuable when it's applied. I could study all the principles, all the tricks, and become the most educated person in agriculture, but what good does that serve me or others if I all do is talk? What did I actually learn or gain?

Meet The Young Farmpreneur
Hi, I'm Ryan.
I started the Young Farmpreneur because I felt there was a perspective missing in the agriculture community. Too many seemed focused on rhetoric, assumptions, and close-mindedness, rather than building genuine understanding, connection, and openness to new ideas.
And on the other side of the coin, despite the access to a wealth of wisdom and information, too many that are seeking the idealistic agrarian lifestyle they see on social media remain largely uneducated.
In starting homesteads, hobby farms, incoherent and exotic enterprises, and commercial operations with zero experience and very little education, these individuals sadly end up discontent, unhappy, stressed, depressed, in debt, and even hating everything about what they sold everything to do.
How do I know this?
I lived it. I did research, but I didn't educate myself enough. I blindly followed the ideology I adopted, and when I didn't adapt to a new context and lean into observation, it cost me.
Time, money, and what felt like an unending heartache. Nights devastated, many in tears, over the loss of 30% of my flock and beloved guardian dog.
I failed—and I did it extraordinarily well. It's hard to imagine someone doing it better than me as someone who was with them everyday.
I almost quit, the pain was truly the most prolonged and excruciating thing I've ever experienced. But I understood why I started this flock and I resolved that this was NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN. EVER.
And this following year has been my best year yet—on and off the farm.
